Anti-poison Dog Units
History
Fondazione Capellino, after participating in two LIFE WolfAlps projects between 2013 and 2024, has renewed its partnership with the Anti-poison Dog Units (in Italian: "Unità Cinofile Antiveleno", UCA) for the three-year period 2025-2027, continuing to donate premium Almo Nature pet food to dogs engaged in the fight against the poisoning of wildlife and pets.
Background
Seven dogs, seven handlers and six entities united against a cruel crime: poisoning.
Poisoning poses a serious threat to wildlife. The use of poisoned baits is not only an illegal act, it is also extremely dangerous: it affects not only the animal that ingests them, but also all the others that feed on the contaminated carcasses, triggering a deadly chain.
Poison control dog units, valuable resources in the defense of biodiversity, come into action to counter this practice. Their success, however, depends not only on training the dog: it is essential that a deep understanding be developed between the dog and its handler. Only through a shared path of training and mutual trust can the team become truly effective in detecting and neutralizing dangers.
Through their work, UCAs contribute to wildlife protection, ensuring timely intervention and greater safety for all animals.
A concrete commitment to wildlife protection
Poisoned baits are, as we have seen, one of the most serious threats to theconservation of wildlife and domestic animals. These lethal baits cause adomino effect that can have consequences for humans as well.
Poison Control Dog Units play a crucial role inprevention and early intervention, ensuring effective action against the use of poison bait and protecting our natural heritage.
In addition to the quality of training, it is indeed essential to ensure that the dogs have adequate nutrition. Capellino Foundation, a nonprofit trade organization dedicated to the preservation of biodiversity, supports Poison Control Dog Units by providing them with high-quality Almo Nature Holistic pet food.
This collaboration, which began in 2013 with the first LIFE WolfAlps project, continued through 2024 with LWA EU and now continues with the UCAs of the :
