Daarnaast is 'ie binnen ook nog eens beschermd tegen allerlei gevaren: auto's, ziektes of ruzie met andere dieren. Maar deze veiligheid komt met een prijs. In de natuur jaagt, klimt, observeert, ruikt, luistert en beschermt een kat z'n territorium. Hij neemt zo elke dag honderden beslissingen. Zijn brein is gemaakt om problemen op te lossen. En dat is precies wat katten die alleen binnen leven missen. Het goede nieuws is dat je je kat nog gelukkiger kunt maken met een paar kleine aanpassingen, zonder dat je je woonkamer per se in een jungle hoeft te veranderen! ## **De wereld van bovenaf bekijken ** Katten vinden het heerlijk om hun omgeving van bovenaf in de gaten te houden. In de natuur stelt deze positie hen in staat om gevaren te voorzien en prooien te spotten. Krabpalen of planken waar ze makkelijk op kunnen klimmen geven hen meer controle over de omgeving en zorgen ervoor dat ze zich veiliger voelen. ## Zijn jachtinstinct prikkelen Zelfs een goed gevoede kat behoudt een sterk jachtinstinct. Interactief speelgoed, hengelstokken of speeltjes die de kat kan achtervolgen laten hem dit natuurlijke gedrag uiten. Zo'n 2 tot 3 speelsessies van 10 minuten per dag (of zelfs minder, afhankelijk van je kat) kunnen een groot verschil maken voor zijn fysieke en mentale welzijn. Vergeet niet om hem "de prooi" te laten vangen om zijn jachtinstinct te bevredigen! ## Stel zijn hersenen op de proef In de natuur kost het vinden van voedsel tijd en moeite. Snuifmatten of denkspeeltjes met [brokjes](https://www.almonature.com/fr/produits-pour-chats?&foodType=DRY&hsLang=nl) of 'beloningen' bootsen een deel van deze uitdaging na en maken de maaltijden spannender. ## Geef hem de kans om te verkennen Een lege doos, een nieuw voorwerp om aan te snuffelen, een geïmproviseerde schuilplaats of een raam  kunnen echte bronnen van stimulatie worden. Voor een kat telt nieuwigheid vaak meer dan complexiteit. ## **Respecteer zijn aard** Natuurlijk betekent het stimuleren van de omgeving van de kat niet dat je hem koste wat kost continu bezig moet houden, of dat je elke dag een nieuwe hindernisbaan moet uitzetten. Katten hebben van nature veel slaap nodig en brengen soms wel 16 tot 20 uur per dag door met rusten. Dit gedrag maakt volledig deel uit van hun evenwicht. `Het doel is eerder om hem kansen te bieden om zijn natuurlijke gedragingen te uiten: observeren, verkennen, klimmen, jagen, zich verstoppen of gewoon controle hebben over zijn omgeving.` Want leven met een kat betekent niet alleen in zijn fysieke behoeften voorzien. Het betekent ook begrijpen wie hij is en hem af en toe, naast zijn portie liefde en eten, wat extra kansen geven om gewoon een kat te zijn. --- ## De community Lid worden van de REcommunity betekent deel uitmaken van een netwerk van mensen die een duidelijk idee delen: het leven is één ondeelbaar geheel en moet opnieuw centraal komen te staan in menselijke keuzes.
