Profile

Habitat and

Biodiversity Corridors

Size and integration are key factors in the maintenance and balance of natural habitats. The more extensive and integrated they are, the more viable.

Habitat fragmentation, caused by human activity and the prevalent economic model, can be remedied by creating biodiversity corridors that connect protected and conservation areas.

We are working with a range of partners on doing just that.

PROJECT DIRECTLY MANAGED
The Nature Reserve of Diaccia Botrona

Purpose

This project comprises three core objectives. The first was to prevent the Diaccia Botrona protected area from being subdivided following an auction called by the province and won by a private party. This objective was achieved in February 2023. The second was to increase the protected area by obtaining, under public concession, an additional 150 hectares bordering the nature reserve. This objective was also achieved in February 2023. The third objective is the design and implementation of water-based interventions aimed at restoring the balance between brackish wetlands and freshwater wetlands. Work on this third objective is underway.
